Austan Goolsbee called out for his role in the weaponizing of the IRS

Former Obama henchman senior economics adviser Austan Goolsbee is back in the news over comments he made about the Koch brothers’ tax details. The Washington Free Beacon reports on a key legal ruling which prevents the Obama administration from continuing to block an investigation into whether the White House gained unauthorized access to Koch tax information.

Former White House Council of Economic Advisers chairman Austan Goolsbee sparked a mini-scandal in 2010 when he told reporters during a background press briefing that Koch Industries—the company of libertarian philanthropists Charles and David Koch—paid no income taxes.

Conservative lawmakers and activists said Goolsbee’s statements not only unfairly singled out the president’s political opponents but also used confidential IRS documents to do so.

Goolsbee got called out tonight on Twitter over his involvement in the scandal. He had some excuses but came up short on delivering any real answers.

Explain yourself, @Austan_Goolsbee: #IRS

@thesavvy that was debunked 3.5 yrs ago

— Austan Goolsbee (@Austan_Goolsbee) October 5, 2014

.@Austan_Goolsbee @thesavvy So you never openly talked about Koch Bros. Tax returns? Seems legit #LawyerUp

— S.M (@redsteeze) October 6, 2014

@redsteeze @thesavvy of course not. my claim wasn't even correct about them and I apologized publicly for using the example.

— Austan Goolsbee (@Austan_Goolsbee) October 6, 2014

.@Austan_Goolsbee @thesavvy Then why did you make the claim?

— S.M (@redsteeze) October 6, 2014

@Austan_Goolsbee @thesavvy You're saying you just made the name "Koch Bros" up on the spot.. Totally believable dude.

— S.M (@redsteeze) October 6, 2014

@redsteeze @Austan_Goolsbee @thesavvy "that was debunked 3.5 yrs ago" Sure, if "that" means "the philosophy I pushed on America".

#IRS #AustanGoolsbee The shamelessness of the Obama admin is almost beyond comprehension: ||

Recall that IRS admitted leaking private tax info to outside reporters. Leaking to the WH? Let's see the TIGTA report.

— John Sexton (@verumserum) October 6, 2014

The IRS also agreed to pay a $50k fine for disclosing info of a traditional marriage group.

— John Sexton (@verumserum) October 6, 2014

So the idea that the IRS leaked info on the Koch brothers, not that hard to fathom.

— John Sexton (@verumserum) October 6, 2014

Basically the IRS claim is: yeah we leaked info on conservatives two other times but not about the Koch brothers.

@Austan_Goolsbee @instapundit @redsteeze @thesavvy Digging yourself a deeper hole. #CorruptionIsntFortheFaintOfHeart

— Trev (@CP4070) October 6, 2014

@Austan_Goolsbee @instapundit @redsteeze @thesavvy Whyd it take so long to 'remember' where you saw/heard/invented that claim?

— MB (@ElBuehn) October 6, 2014

.@Austan_Goolsbee BTW, thanks for the brilliant economic success. Gotta go… Dollar General's got a sale on ramen. @instapundit @redsteeze

— jon gabriel (@exjon) October 6, 2014

@redsteeze @Austan_Goolsbee @thesavvy Love how left makes stmts they know are false…those who saw orig claim most likely wont see apology.

— Laurie D. (@LolosInTheHouse) October 6, 2014

It’s funny how that works. It’s almost as if they do it intentionally to mislead people.
